• The Avenue Children’s Centre and Kindergarten (The Avenue) is a small, not-for-profit community run childcare centre located in a quiet street in Balaclava and has been in operation since 1975. The centre is located within a converted home and offers 40 long day-care places across three separate rooms; Babies (0-2 years), Toddlers (2-3 years) and Kindergarten (3-5 years).

The Avenue provides a homely and comfortable environment for our children, their parents and our educators. Our team are like family and are fully committed to the centre, shown by our strong and proud history of staff retention which we believe is essential not only for our educators, but for your children’s well-being.

  • Our Community focused approach

We are different from many other centres as we are Community run. Our building is owned by the City of Port Phillip and our centre run by a committee of volunteer parents. These parents dedicate their time and energy into the decision making and running of The Avenue.

The Community Child Care Association state that community run centres “foster children’s development, support their families and build the community”. The Avenue seeks to embody each of these guiding principles by providing a unique childcare and kindergarten environment in which children and families are provided with a safe and nurturing setting and tailored programs to meet their specific needs.
